Translation

General guidelines:

  • Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but please withdraw your submission if your piece is accepted elsewhere. (If you have submitted multiple works, please send a Submittable message to tell us which works you must withdraw.)
  • Submit your work in .docx or PDF; Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced.
  • Please include content notes for any material in your submission for which you think readers may appreciate advance notice. (Examples include: violence, sexual assault, racism, suicide, self-harm.)

Translation guidelines:

  • Please send no more than eight poems in translation or 7000 words of prose.
  • Submission of original language plus indication of permission of writer is required.
  • Cover letters are required for translation submissions. Along with background information about the writer and translator(s), we would appreciate an explanation of how the translated work relates to The Dodge’s environmental themes (especially those tied in with social justice) and how the work engages these themes in the original language and culture. Above all, we’re interested in how other cultures and traditions might influence us to expand and redefine our own perceptions about the environment and the human presence within it.
  • Please include a contact email address in the manuscript as well.
We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
